1. Pre-Welding Inspection
- Review and approve welding documents - Welding Procedure Specification (WPS), Welding Procedure Qualification Record (WPQR) & Welder Performance Qualification (WPQ).
- Verify consumables (electrodes, filler wires, shielding gases) as per the approved WPS.
- Ensure proper welding practices, such as run-on and run-off tabs, preheating requirements, and compliance with drawings and the latest EN/ISO standards.
- Inspect weld fit-up, including joint preparation and edge geometry, as well as root gap and alignment as per drawings/WPS.
- Witness and validate trial/sample welds (especially laser welding) before production.
2. In-Process Welding Inspection
- Monitor and verify welding parameters: current, voltage, travel speed, and weld sequence.
- Ensure inter-pass temperature control as per WPS.
- Check weld bead quality, including shape, size, profile, and uniformity.
- Verify proper cleaning between passes and weld layer integrity.
- Ensure adherence to approved welding procedures during execution.
3. Post-Welding Inspection
- Inspect welds for size, profile, and appearance, ensuring compliance with drawings and weld classification requirements as well as adequate penetration and fusion in weld joints.
- Perform or witness visual Inspection (VT) as per ISO 17637.
- Coordinate and witness Non-Destructive Testing (NDT): UT, RT, MPT, DPT, LT as per applicable standards.
- Review and approve NDT reports.
- Witness Destructive Testing (DT), where required, and validate reports.
4. Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain and verify inspection checklists and test reports.
- Review and approve NDT & DT documentation.
- Prepare final welding quality reports with stage clearance.
- Participate in Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for weld defects: identify failure causes, recommend corrective and preventive actions (CAPA), & suggest process improvements for welding quality enhancement.
- Preparation and submission of Daily/Weekly/Monthly project progress reports.
