What is SIL certification?

SIL certification is applicable for all the electrical, electronic and programmable electronic products or any components which are intended to be used into one or more safety functions as per the requirements of IEC 61508.

Each SIL level represents the extent of risk reduction required to maintain acceptable rate of failure. SIL certification covers assessment of industrial products which are intended to be used in any safety function with respect to the relevant parts and requirements of the IEC 61508 series standard for a safety integrity level. This is generally achieved by an assessment of the product and the processes by a third party assessor.
