Analytical Chemistry Laboratory

Analytical Chemistry Laboratory

Chemical analyses of a material are used to identify and confirm the type of material or weld metal which is prescribed for a given design solution, both during the manufacture of new equipment, and in the event to malfunctions of operated equipment. It is a background needed for follow-up mechanical tests of materials and a metallographic assessment. It includes analyses of steels, various alloys, coatings and plating baths.

The Analytical Chemistry Laboratory is a part of the Testing Laboratories, which are accredited according to ČSN EN ISO / IEC 17025:2005 by the Czech Accreditation Institute / ČIA, o.p.s. (AZL No. 1060).

The Analytical Chemistry Laboratory carries out analyses of the chemical composition of various materials, which together with mechanical tests and metallographic assessment provide a complex assessment of materials.

The most frequently analyses of:

• Steels, stainless steel, cast iron, ferro-alloys and special alloys of nickel, chromium, nickel and cobalt

• Bronze, brass and other copper, nickel and zinc alloys

• Surface layers of metal and inorganic materials

• Light alloys of aluminium, zinc, magnesium and silicon

• Solders, bearing metals and other alloys of tin, lead, antimony and bismuth

• Deposits, ashes, minerals, ores, rocks, silicate materials, soils, limestones, SiC

• Waters

• Plating baths

• Gold and silver in alloys of copper, nickel, zinc, aluminium, in solders and lead alloys

• Toxic elements in metallic materials, electrical material, ash, waste

• Admixtures of precious metals and rare earth metals

• Hexavalent chromium in corrosion-resistant layers

The laboratory also carries out:

• Verification of attestations and certificates, determination of the type of material

• Determination of the purity of graphite

Tests are performed from the solution by the optical emission spectrometer with inductively coupled plasma. Nearly the entire periodic table of elements, including precious metals, rare earth metals, etc. are determined. Carbon and sulphur are being determined on the automatic analyser.

We perform the analysis either from a piece sample that we prepare by ourselves, from the chips of the sample, or from the powder. It is necessary to provide ca 2 grams of sample (about a tablespoon, by weight). For atypical samples, please consult the laboratory for the quantity of sample.

The Analytical Chemistry Laboratory in Brno carries out tests according to different national, European and international standards, i.e. EN, ISO, DIN, ASME, SA, CEN/TS, ASTM, ČSN, and others, and within the granted Type 1 flexibility can include updated standard methods (technical equivalents) to testing, provided a principle of measurement is maintained.

Protocols with the results of the tests performed in the Analytical Chemistry Laboratory are issued according to customer requirements in various language versions, e.g. English, German, Russian, etc..

Every year, the Testing Laboratories Brno participate in inter-laboratory comparative tests, thus demonstrating the high professional and technical standards of its services. The individual certificates of participation in inter-laboratory comparative tests are listed here.

Our Testing Laboratories in Brno provide comprehensive service to their customers, including sample production. They are characterized by the individual approach to each customer. We help our customers solve their problems, and thanks to the extreme flexibility of our experts the range of tests offered to our customers encompass testing on “while-you-wait” basis as well as testing at specified individual dates.

Testing Laboratories are independent, they provide their services to a number of different companies, inspection and certification bodies.
