About IFS

IFS (International Featured Standards) is a series of quality and food safety standards developed for companies that produce or trade in food products. The standards were developed by German and French retailers and are widely used and recognised internationally. They provide a common frame of reference for assessing suppliers and ensure greater transparency, comparability and efficiency throughout the food chain.

IFS certification assesses, among other things:

  • the quality system (e.g. HACCP and document management)
  • compliance with legislation and customer specifications
  • traceability and product integrity
  • employee knowledge

Audits are carried out using a detailed checklist, with scores for each requirement. A company can achieve ‘Foundation’ or ‘Higher Level’ status, depending on the number of non-conformities and overall performance.
