QUALITY is all about understanding and personal courage

On 11th - 12th November 2021, the 1st annual QUALITY Conference took place. The main theme of the founding year was "Return to traditional values and the meaning of quality".

The unwritten patronage of the conference was provided by the Chairman of the State Office for Nuclear Safety Ing. Dana Drábová, Ph.D., Dr. h. c. mult., which we greatly appreciate. Together with Ing. Bohdan Zronk, Member of the Board of Directors and Director of the Nuclear Energy Division, ČEZ, a. s., introduced this meeting with the idea that quality is often associated primarily with formal systems. But it is time to return the term quality to its original meaning - that is, professionalism, respect, humility and pride in a job well done.

Companies from various industries have accepted the invitation to participate in the conference. The aim was to inspire each other, to step out of the "established" in their industry and see how quality is approached in other industries. Representatives of companies ranging from the automotive industry to the healthcare sector were involved in the discussions, namely: the Czech Society for Quality Prague, ŠKODA AUTO a.s., Metrostav DIZ s.r.o., SLOVNAFT, a.s., FN Brno, Ostrava Airport, a.s. and ELLA-CS, s.r.o., Hradec Králové.

Although some entered the cooperation with slight scepticism at such a multidisciplinary meeting, very soon the intersections and similar challenges that all of them have to face started to become apparent. Understanding, i.e. clarification of ideas and expectations, was quite unanimously expressed as one of the initial conditions for quality. Then there is the need not only for sufficiently qualified staff, but above all for personal commitment in the sense of 'he who does not burn cannot light the fire himself'. And finally: quality is about personal courage and awareness of the impact - on safety, on finances, on the environment, on our lives. Quality is about seeing things in context and looking for sustainable and real solutions.

The second edition is already scheduled for World Quality Day again, on 10 and 11 November 2022.

Ing. Zdeněk Čančura, Ph.D. - Director of the NPP Quality Management Unit, ČEZ, a. s.
