RePlast Cert

Scope

RePlast Cert is aimed at companies involved in the production, trade and/or processing of recycled plastic materials for the manufacture of new products, as well as packaging companies that use plastic packaging materials in their products.

The certification verifies the percentage of recycled plastic contained in products or packaging, contributing to the transparency and credibility of the relevant environmental claims.

Note: The scope of RePlast Cert does not cover the assessment of the life cycle of products (Life Cycle Assessment – LCA), nor does it cover other environmental performance aspects or characteristics of production processes beyond the verification of recycled plastic content.

Purpose

RePlast Cert aims to support the transition to a circular economy by promoting the use of recycled plastic materials in the manufacture of products and packaging.

The certification scheme supports a reduction in the consumption of virgin raw materials, strengthening the recycling industry and increasing demand for recycled plastics throughout the supply chain. At the same time, the scheme provides reliable evidence to support environmental claims regarding recycled content, thereby strengthening the trust of customers, partners and regulatory authorities.

Benefits of Certification

RePlast Cert certification offers significant benefits across all stages of the plastics product value chain, as:

  • it provides reliable and independent verification of the percentage of recycled plastic used in products and packaging,
  • it enhances the transparency and credibility of environmental claims,
  • it increases the trust of stakeholders (customers, consumers, suppliers and shareholders)
  • supports businesses in implementing the principles of the circular economy,
  • facilitates the demonstration of compliance with current and forthcoming regulatory requirements.

For example, certification can help demonstrate compliance with:

  • Directive (EU) 2019/904 on the reduction of the impact of certain plastic products on the environment (Single-Use Plastics Directive),
  • Regulation (EU) 2022/1616 on recycled plastic materials and articles intended to come into contact with food,
  • Ministerial Decision Z3-1531/2012, concerning the use of environmental claims on products and packaging, which refers to standard EN ISO 14021 on self-declared environmental claims (Type II Environmental Labelling),
  • Regulation (EU) 2025/40 (PPWR) on packaging and packaging waste.
  • Directive (EU) 2024/825 on empowering consumers for the green transition through better protection against unfair practices and through better information

The above list is indicative and does not exhaust the full scope of applicable legislation or regulatory requirements that may apply to any business.

Accreditation

The credibility of the RePlast Cert certification scheme is reinforced by the accreditation granted by ESYD (ESYD: …), in accordance with the ISO/IEC 17065 standard.

RePlast Cert is implemented in accordance with the principles and requirements of the ISO/IEC 17065 standard, which sets out the requirements for bodies certifying products, processes and services. Compliance with the standard ensures that the certification process is carried out impartially, transparently, consistently and with technical competence, lending prestige and credibility to the certificates issued.
