V-Label mark

Greekexports, the official provider of the V-Label label in Greece, Cyprus, North Macedonia and Kosovo, is collaborating with TÜV NORD Greece (TÜV NORD) to certify the correct use of the label for the labelling of products and services for vegan and vegetarian products in Greece.

Through this cooperation, the certification body is actively showing its interest in the rapidly growing vegan and vegetarian lifestyle and at the same time guarantees that the V-Label is used correctly by domestic businesses. At the same time, the cooperation between TÜV NORD Greece (TÜV NORD) and Greekexports aims to expand the use of the V-Label in Greece, following international trends.

Today, worldwide, more than 4,800 product producers and more than 70,000 codes have been certified with the V-Label mark all over the world, numbers that have been rapidly increasing in recent years. Indicatively, the total value of Vegan (strictly vegetarian diet) and Vegetarian (vegan but also dairy, eggs and honey) products and services now amounts to more than €100 billion worldwide and represents more than 5% of all food products.

It should be noted that the V-Label is an internationally recognised symbol of the vegetarian lifestyle that has been in use since 1970 and became more widely known in 1985 at the first European Vegetarian Congress. Since 2008, the rights to the trademark have been managed by the Swiss company V-Label GmbH, which works with local partners in each of the 30 countries in which it operates, who in turn carry out the majority of vegan and vegetarian product and service certifications.

Similarly, Greekexports was established in 2011 to support domestic companies in directing their efforts towards export expansion. From the beginning, it has focused on services aimed at "opening" markets with specific characteristics, such as those requiring halal and/or kosher certificates. Today it represents internationally renowned operators in halal and kosher services, and has in its portfolio more than 200 certified companies in Greece and the Balkans. It is also the official provider of the V-label brand in Greece, Cyprus, North Macedonia and Kosovo, being the local partner of V-label GmbH.

Mr. Ioannis Barrakos, Chief Inspector of TÜV NORD Greece (TÜV NORD) stressed that: "At TÜV NORD Greece (TÜV NORD) we closely follow the trends in consumption and nutrition and we recognize the importance but also the development of Vegan and Vegetarian products and services. As a certification body, we believe that the correct and certified use of the V-label ensures the entire consumer and producer community and our cooperation with Greekexports, official provider of the label in Greece, can act as a catalyst for this sector to flourish even more".

Thomas Vassaras, CEO of Greekexports said: "The consumer trusts the v-label process and feels confident that the product we label fully meets all the requirements of vegetarianism (vegan) or strict vegetarianism (vegan). TÜV NORD Greece (TÜV NORD), with its high level of expertise and specialization, is the appropriate and reliable partner to check the correct compliance with vegetarian standards. We are extremely happy to start this cooperation today and we look forward to a rapid increase in the number of products that will feature the well-known yellow leafy label very soon".
