The new standard provides the principles and defines the basic requirements for the design and implementation of a traceability system and can be applied to any company operating at any stage of the food and feed chain.

Recent food scandals (such as dioxins in pork and chicken) have highlighted the need for companies to develop comprehensive traceability systems. Since risks can occur at any stage of the production process and throughout the supply chain, monitoring and communication throughout the process is essential.
