BRCGS V9 Food Safety Private Label Food Safety

The BRCGS V9 standard was developed by the British Retail Confederation and is aimed at food suppliers who manufacture private label products on behalf of Super Markets mainly in England.

It was first published in 1998. Since then, it has been updated several times in line with evolving food safety requirements. Today, the prototype is in its ninth edition.

It concerns food manufacturing companies, but does not cover trading activities, product imports, distribution and/or storage when these are carried out by third parties. BRCGS V9 requires companies to comply with the relevant food legislation. Certified companies, in addition to enhancing customer credibility, enjoy the acceptance of the UK Retailers Association (ticket to trade). Furthermore, they achieve a reduction in customer inspections as the latter have access to all inspection data from the certification body.
