In the construction sector, the effort to establish uniform rules and specifications started with Directive 89/106/EEC (known internationally as CPD, for construction products). In 2011, the Directive was replaced by the European Construction Products Certification Regulation (305/2011).
From 1 July 2013, every construction product placed on the market in the European Union must bear the CE marking. The CE marking indicates the product's compliance with the EU Construction Products Regulation (CPR). However, it does not mean that the product is suitable for all possible uses, but that it meets the performance declaration as formulated by the manufacturer.
This does not necessarily mean that the product will be suitable for all end uses, but it does indicate that the product conforms to the performance statement as presented by the Manufacturer.
