Shape field (scope)
Building Information Modelling is based on the use of "smart" digital models that provide the necessary information to make the planning and design of infrastructure faster, cheaper, of better quality and with less impact on the environment. One could say that the aim of the whole BIM approach is to achieve more, with less.
The scope of the methodology is not limited to planning and/or design. Its use and benefits extend to all phases of the project life cycle, supporting services such as: Cost management, project management, constructability issues and even operations management.
The end product of such a holistic process is not just a better build, nor a simple 3D computer model. It is a wealth of information that combines the virtual with the real, from the design and implementation of the structure to its operation and maintenance.
The BIM methodology is now used by engineers, businesses and government agencies who design, build, operate and maintain various infrastructure in areas such as utilities, roads, ports, tunnels, etc.
