MSC CoC & ASC CoC – Sustainable Aquaculture

MSC CoC

The Marine Stewardship Council is an international non-profit organization established to address the problem of unsustainable fishing and safeguard seafood supplies for the future.

Its vision is for the world’s oceans to be teeming with life – today, tomorrow and for generations to come. A sustainable seafood market is crucial to making this vision a reality.

The MSC Chain of Custody Standard is a traceability standard that is applicable to the full supply chain from a certified fishery or farm to final sale.

Each company in the supply chain handling or selling an MSC certified product must have a valid MSC Chain of Custody certificate. This assures consumers and seafood-buyers that MSC labelled seafood comes from a certified sustainable fishery.

ASC CoC

The Aquaculture Stewardship Council was founded in 2010 by WWF and IDH (Dutch Initiative for sustainable trade) and is an independent non-profit organization with international influence.

The vision of ASC is to make environmentally sustainable aquacultures that are socially responsible by using effective market mechanisms that add value to the entire chain.

ΑSC CoC is a traceability standard that can be applied to the entire chain of fish supply (from the aquaculture to the markets).

Every company that is part of the supply chain must be certified according to the standard. This ensures the consumers that the fish products come from certified points of sustainable aquacultures.
