Life cycle assessment of products - what does a comprehensive evaluation of all environmentally relevant factors look like? In an era when consumers and industrial and commercial buyers increasingly demand accurate and reliable environmental information, a comprehensive assessment is essential.
TÜV NORD can critically assess your Life Cycle Assessment according to ISO 14040 and ISO 14044 standards. With a "rigorously assessed Life Cycle Assessment", manufacturers can build trust in their products and lay the foundations for successful marketing. This assessment not only provides a reliable basis for customers' purchasing decisions, but also enables companies to scientifically assess their environmental performance. Producers can clearly understand the ecological impact of their products and thus adapt and advance product development and internal processes in a sustainable and environmentally friendly manner.
Life cycle assessments validated by neutral organisations allow for comparability between different products or different stages of development of the same product. This provides potential customers with objective information and they can choose suppliers whose products reflect the best ecological conditions and characteristics. This is particularly important in the automotive industry, where a clear and validated Life Cycle Assessment is seen as a passport to the market.
Upon successful completion of the assessment, the product in question can be labelled "Validated Life Cycle Assessment". In principle, all types of products can be assessed.
It is particularly recommended for the automotive industry: a trustworthy Life Cycle Assessment validated by a neutral organisation is regarded as an entry ticket to the market.
TÜV NORD's customers include Audi, Porsche and Hyundai.
Within the framework of the audit, the independent environmental verifier considers the entire life cycle of the product in question (life cycle analysis). This involves documenting and assessing all inputs (e.g. raw materials) and outputs (e.g. emissions) to the environment caused by the product during production, use and disposal. If the results of the LCA are positive, this not only improves the competitive position of the product on the market, but also allows the results to be applied to production and design, e.g. by selecting the best materials. On the other hand, the buyer can decide on a safe basis to choose those suppliers whose products have the best ecological properties.

In principle, however, LCA can be validated for any type of product.
The manufacturer concerned must describe the entire life cycle of the product to be tested - from raw material extraction, production and application to disposal or recycling. The main focus is on aspects that may have an impact on the environment.
