Plant Safety Assessment

What is Plant Safety Assessment?

Plant safety evaluation refers to the process of identifying, analyzing, and assessing potential safety risks (such as electrical faults, structural collapse, fire, environmental hazards, etc.) throughout the entire life cycle of a PV power station-from design and construction to operation and maintenance-using systematic and standardized methods. Its core objectives are to prevent safety incidents (such as electric shock, fire, equipment damage, and personnel injuries), ensure compliant operation of the power station, and reduce economic losses. It is a critical component of PV power station safety management and serves as an important basis for government supervision, project acceptance, and insurance underwriting.

Why is Plant Safety Assessment important?

Proactive Risk Prevention

Identify potential hazards before incidents occur (e.g., support corrosion, cable aging, inverter overload) to prevent accidents such as electric shock, fire, or equipment collapse.

Compliance Verification

Ensure power stations meet national/industry safety standards and satisfy regulatory requirements including grid access, environmental acceptance, and production safety permits.

Asset Protection

Extend equipment lifespan by mitigating risks (e.g., reducing power degradation caused by module hotspots) and lower O&M costs (e.g., preventing equipment damage through early grounding defect remediation);

Personnel Safety Assurance

Assess operational environments (e.g., high-altitude work hazards, electrical safety distances) and implement protective measures to safeguard O&M personnel and surrounding residents.

Safety Assessment Content Includes:

Electrical Safety: High-voltage protection, grounding continuity, arc-flash protection.

Structural Safety: Support systems and foundation engineering.

Fire Safety: Equipment fire ratings and fire spread containment.

Emergency Safety: Emergency shutdown, fire access routes.

Equipment Safety: Component hotspot fire risk, battery thermal runaway protection.

Environmental Safety: Extreme weather protection, flood risk mitigation.

Operational Safety: Operating procedures: Integrity review of live-line work protocols, safety signage.

Monitoring Systems: Firewall/IEC 62443 compliance, data tampering prevention mechanisms, remote control.

TÜV NORD Safety-Evaluated PV Plants: Significantly reduced electrical accident rates, markedly lower insurance claim rejection rates.
