Indian Boiler Regulations

Background

Boilers, pressure vessels, pipelines, valves, and raw materials (plates, bars, castings, forgings) used for boilers and related components exported to India must be inspected by an authorized Inspecting Authority. Authorized inspectors conduct design reviews, material inspections, production process inspections, on-site installation inspections, and in-service equipment assessments in accordance with the Indian Boiler Regulations (IBR). Additionally, these must be registered with the Central Boiler Board (CBB) of India. Manufacturing enterprises are required to provide FORM certificates for production, installation, materials, etc., as per IBR requirements, which must be signed and stamped by the Inspecting Authority.

The IBR regulations apply to various types of boiler and pressure vessel manufacturers, as well as manufacturers of enclosed containers, pipelines, valves, safety pressure-bearing components, and pressure-bearing materials used in steam systems.
