Automotive Functional Safety

Background and scope of application

New technologies on vehicle, as well as the addition of a large number of features, mean that automakers must develop more and more safety-related systems. This not only leads to an increase in the number of electronic components, but also to more complex components and systems themselves, as well as increasingly stringent functional safety requirements.

ISO26262 is derived from the basic standards for functional safety IEC61508 of electronic, electrical and programmable devices, mainly positioned in the automotive industry for specific electrical devices, electronic equipment, programmable electronic devices and other components specially used in the automotive field, aiming to improve the international standards for the functional safety of automotive electronic and electrical products.
