Revision 5 of IATF TRANSITION STRATEGY ISO/TS 16949 to IATF 16949

March 1, 2018

Revision 5 of TRANSITION STRATEGY ISO/TS 16949 to IATF 16949 has been published by IATF to answer this question: If a previously certified ISO/TS 16949 organization has to start over with an initial certification audit to IATF 16949, is an off-site documentation review required?

Answer: Yes. If the stage 1 readiness review is waived (see section Initial Certification to IATF 16949, item D or item E), then an off-site documentation review is required along with the normal audit planning process required in the IATF Rules 5th Edition, section 5.7. A gap analysis for those supporting function(s), on-site or remote, that have not completed an IATF transition audit is also required. In cases where a stage 1 readiness review is required, then a separate off-site documentation review is not required as the stage 1 readiness review already covers the same requirements (see IATF Rules 5th Edition, section 6.5.1, item d-f). However, a gap analysis for those supporting function(s), on-site or remote, that have not completed an IATF transition audit is still required as part of the stage 1 readiness review.
