GHG Inventory Case Study – Las Vegas Sands Corp.
When we reported our GHG inventory in 2011, we decided to hire TUV Nord as independent verifier for our Las Vegas inventory. The intent of verification was to validate data collection conducted by our internal staff and inventory calculation conducted by a third party consultant. In our opinion, third party assurance can increase the credibility of our GHG inventory which we report publicly. It also improves the reliability of the inventory data which we utilize for setting long-term reduction targets. Our initial goal was to achieve the “limited level” of assurance. Our verifier conducted in-depth review on site. Upon the source data and calculation validation, we achieved the “reasonable level” of assurance which is the highest level in the category. We are very pleased with the result. The biggest challenge during the verification process was collecting and documenting all the data. It involved significant amount of work at our scale of operation. Through this process, we have identified the most efficient way to acquire and manage GHG related data for future inventory calculation and verification.
