Production / Distribution of GMO-Controlled Animal Feed

Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO)

TÜV HELLAS has developed a standard that defines the requirements for the production and delivery of compound animal feed controlled for GMOs (Genetically Modified Organisms).
In the absence of a unified legislative framework (both European and Greek) regarding the presence of Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs) in raw materials, additives, and compound feed, TÜV HELLAS has created a standard that sets out the necessary requirements for the production and delivery of compound animal feed controlled for GMOs.

These requirements are based on European legislation concerning the deliberate release of GMOs into the environment (Directive 2001/18/EC). With the introduction of new regulations on genetically modified food and feed (Regulation EC 1829/2003; GM Feed-Food), as well as regulations on labelling and traceability (Regulation EC 1830/2003; GM Traceability), the standard has been adapted to align with these legislative developments.

The purpose of this standard is to define the method to be followed for the production and distribution of animal feed derived from raw materials controlled for GMO content (<0.9%).

The primary objective of the standard is to prevent the intentional release of GMOs into the environment during the production of raw materials or compound feed.
This procedure is applied to the production of compound animal feed that is controlled for GMO presence.
