What is ISO 9001?

ISO 9001 is the international standard that defines the criteria for a quality management system (QMS). ISO 9001 focuses on performance, risk-based thinking, and customer satisfaction. More than one million companies have already obtained ISO 9001 certification. The standard provides a structured framework that helps organizations consistently meet customer and regulatory requirements.

Whether you are a small business or a multinational enterprise, ISO 9001 certification supports you in improving internal processes, increasing efficiency, and reducing operational risks. For many industries, ISO 9001 is a key requirement for supplier approval and public or private tenders. It strengthens your reputation, both locally and internationally.

As part of the TÜV NORD GROUP, we combine local presence with global expertise. Our auditors conduct the certification process, from the initial assessment to the successful issuance of your ISO 9001 certificate. The audit is carried out in accordance with industry standards to verify that your QMS meets the highest requirements and delivers real value to your business.

What are the benefits of ISO 9001 certification?

An ISO 9001-certified company demonstrates its commitment to quality and continuous improvement. Certification shows your customers and partners that you operate a reliable system, capable of delivering consistent results and high-quality products or services.

Benefits include:

  • Improved internal communication and accountability
  • Better risk and quality control
  • Enhanced customer satisfaction
  • Increased access to business opportunities where ISO 9001 is a formal requirement

Climate change considerations to management system standards

In February 2024, the International Accreditation Forum (IAF) and the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) published a joint communiqué to highlight the addition of climate change considerations to a number of existing ISO management system standards (MSS).

Clauses 4.1 and 4.2 of the MSS are affected. This is to ensure that climate change issues are considered by the organization in the context of the effectiveness of the management system, in addition to all other aspects.

FAQs on ISO 9001 certification

ISO 9001 is suitable for all organizations, regardless of size, sector or location. It is widely used across manufacturing, services, technology, healthcare, logistics, and many other industries. Any organization aiming to enhance quality, reduce waste, and strengthen its reputation will benefit from ISO 9001 certification.

The updated version of ISO was published in September 2026. The revision will address emerging global challenges and enable further alignment with other ISO management system standards.

To become ISO 9001 certified, your organization must implement a quality management system that meets the requirements of the ISO 9001:2015 standard. A recognized certification body such as TÜV NORD will then conduct an audit to verify compliance and issue the certificate.
