TÜV UK Now UKAS Accredited to Certify Against ISO 14001:2026

TÜV UK is pleased to announce that it has achieved UKAS accreditation to certify against ISO 14001:2026, following the successful transition to the latest edition of the internationally recognised Environmental Management Systems (EMS) standard.

This achievement reinforces TÜV UK's commitment to providing independently accredited certification services and supporting organisations in demonstrating their commitment to effective environmental management.

What's new in ISO 14001:2026?

Published in April 2026, ISO 14001:2026 replaces the previous 2015 edition, building on the established framework while introducing a number of updates to reflect evolving environmental priorities and expectations.

The revised standard places greater emphasis on several areas, including:

  • Environmental considerations: Greater clarity around environmental concepts and the consideration of issues such as climate change, biodiversity and resource efficiency.
  • Leadership and accountability: Reinforced expectations around leadership involvement and the integration of environmental management into organisational decision-making.
  • Life cycle perspective: Further clarification of how organisations consider environmental impacts throughout their activities, products and services.
  • External providers: Strengthened requirements concerning the control of externally provided processes, products and services.
  • Environmental performance: Continued focus on monitoring, evaluating and improving environmental performance.

While the revision does not fundamentally change the structure of ISO 14001, it provides greater clarity around existing requirements and strengthens certain areas of environmental management.

What does this mean for organisations?

Organisations currently certified to ISO 14001:2015 will need to transition to the 2026 edition to maintain their certification against the latest standard.

The transition period provides organisations with time to review their existing Environmental Management Systems, understand the revised requirements and identify any necessary changes.

The transition deadline for organisations is 30th April 2029. Businesses should begin familiarising themselves with the revised requirements and planning their transition to ensure they remain on track.

For organisations considering ISO 14001 certification for the first time, the revised standard provides an opportunity to establish an Environmental Management System aligned with the latest internationally recognised requirements.
