V-Label Seal
TÜV HELLAS (TÜV NORD) partners with Greekexports for the V-Label seal in Greece
TÜV HELLAS (TÜV NORD) collaborates with Greekexports, the official provider of the V-Label seal in Greece, Cyprus, North Macedonia, and Kosovo, certifying the proper use of the label for marking vegan and vegetarian products and services in our country.
Through this collaboration, the certification body demonstrates its active interest in the rapidly growing vegan and vegetarian lifestyle while ensuring that the V-Label seal is used correctly by domestic businesses.
At the same time, the partnership between TÜV HELLAS (TÜV NORD) and Greekexports aims to expand the use of the V-Label seal in Greece, following international trends.
Globally, more than 4,800 producers and over 70,000 product codes have been certified under the V-Label, with these numbers rapidly increasing in recent years. Indicatively, the total value of Vegan (strictly plant-based) and Vegetarian (plant-based including dairy, eggs, and honey) products and services now exceeds €100 billion worldwide, accounting for over 5% of the global food market.
It is worth noting that the V-Label is an internationally recognized symbol of the vegetarian lifestyle, first introduced in 1970 and gaining broader recognition in 1985 during the first European Vegetarian Congress.
Since 2008, the trademark rights have been managed by the Swiss company V-Label GmbH, which works with local partners in each of the 30 countries where it operates. These local partners carry out the majority of vegan and vegetarian certifications for products and services.
The Greek company Greekexports was established in 2011, aiming to support domestic companies in expanding their efforts toward export growth. From the beginning, it focused on services tailored to accessing niche markets, such as those requiring halal and/or kosher certifications.
Today, it represents internationally renowned certification bodies in halal and kosher services, and boasts a portfolio of more than 200 certified companies in Greece and the Balkans. At the same time, it serves as the official provider of the V-Label seal in Greece, Cyprus, North Macedonia, and Kosovo, acting as the local partner of V-Label GmbH.
Mr. Ioannis Barrakos, Lead Auditor at TÜV HELLAS (TÜV NORD), stated:
“At TÜV HELLAS (TÜV NORD), we closely follow trends in consumption and nutrition, and we recognize the importance and growth of vegan and vegetarian products and services. As a certification body, we believe that the correct and certified use of the V-Label seal ensures transparency and trust for both consumers and producers. Our collaboration with Greekexports, the official provider of the seal in Greece, can be a key driver in helping this sector flourish even further.”
Mr. Thomas Vassaras, CEO of Greekexports, noted:
“Consumers trust the V-Label process and feel confident that the product bearing this label fully meets all vegetarian (vegetarian) or strict vegetarian (vegan) criteria. TÜV HELLAS (TÜV NORD), with its deep expertise and specialization, is the ideal and reliable partner to ensure compliance with vegetarian standards.
We are extremely pleased to launch this collaboration today and look forward to a rapid increase in the number of products that will soon proudly carry the familiar yellow label with the green leaf.”
