The objective of IFS is to ensure food safety and quality and to evaluate food production or packaging companies that collaborate with retailers.

Key Features of IFS Food are:

• Structure Similar to BRC: IFS has a similar structure and requirements to the BRC (British Retail Consortium) standard, making it recognizable and compatible with international markets.
• Focus on Food Production and Packaging Companies: The standard is aimed at companies involved in the production or primary packaging of bulk food products, ensuring that their processes meet high standards of safety and quality.
• Compliance with Legislation: Compliance with food legislation is a prerequisite for companies seeking IFS certification.
• Acceptance in Germany, France, and Italy: Certified companies are accepted by retailers in these countries, providing them with a “ticket to trade” – access to the markets of Germany, France, and Italy.
• Reduction in Customer Audits: IFS certification reduces the need for customer audits, as customers can access audit data directly from the certification body, thereby lowering costs and saving time for companies.
