ISO 50001 – Energy Management

ISO 50001

The ISO 50001 standard for Energy Management is a significant management tool, and its implementation aims at establishing the necessary processes that will lead to optimal energy performance.

The standard is based on the Deming Cycle methodology—“Plan – Do – Check – Act”—and, beyond the systemic requirements (such as document control, staff training, monitoring of corrective and preventive actions, auditing, and management review), it particularly emphasizes the following:

  • The establishment of an appropriate energy policy
  • The identification of energy aspects/needs and the recognition of opportunities for energy performance improvement
  • The determination of legal and other requirements related to the energy aspects of the organization
  • The definition of specific objectives and targets regarding energy efficiency, implemented through structured energy management programs
  • The establishment of an organizational structure for the effective implementation of an Energy Management System

The standard is applicable to all types and sizes of organizations and businesses, and due to its structural similarity with ISO 14001, it can be easily integrated into existing certified management systems.

TÜV HELLAS, through the accreditation of its parent organization TÜV NORD A.E., offers Certification Services for the above energy-related standards, using in-house auditors with many years of experience not only in the certification of Environmental Management Systems (ISO 14001 & EMAS), but also in the design, supervision, and evaluation of acceptance testing of large energy installations.
