Solar Keymark

The Solar Keymark is a quality label for solar collectors and solar thermal systems and it was created to certify products of high quality at European level. It is a voluntary third-party certification mark which demonstrates to end-users that the product conforms to the relevant European standards and fulfills additional requirements. The aim is to reduce trade barriers and promote the use of high quality solar thermal products in the European market and beyond. Today, It is the main quality label for solar thermal products and is widely spread across the European market and increasingly recognized worldwide.

The Solar Keymark was developed by the European Solar Thermal Industry Federation (ESTIF) and CEN (European Committee for Standardization) in close co-operation with leading European test labs and with the support of the European Commission. The Solar Keymark is solely dedicated to the following fields of certification:

  • Solar thermal collectors (based on European standard series EN 12975 & EN ISO 9806:2013)
  • Thermal solar heating systems for domestic hot water and air (based on European standard series EN12976 & EN ISO 9806:2013)

TÜV Cyprus is accredited according to EN ISO/IEC 17065:2012 from ESYD (Certificate no. 885) and it is an empowered cetfication body by Cen Certification Board (No.: 033), for issuing solar Keymak licenses. Our scheme includes four accredited laboratories based in Greece, Italy, Portugal and Cyprus. TÜV CYPRUS is the first and only certification body in Cyprus with this accreditation which can provide Solar KeyMark certificates.

To obtain Solar Keymark certification it is essential that the product tested is a sample taken randomly from the current production or stock by a TÜV inspector and tested by a collaborating laboratory. Furthermore, the production and quality management system implemented at the factory will be audited on site by a team of TÜV inspectors. Evey year the Quality Management System documentation is checked and every two years certified products selected from the production are physically inspected by an inspector.

ATEX Directive 2014/34/EU

ATEX (Equipment and protective systems for potentially explosive atmosphere) is the name commonly given to the two European Directives for controlling explosive atmospheres:

  1. Directive 2014/34/EU on the approximation of the laws of Members States concerning equipment and protective systems intended for use in potentially explosive atmospheres.
  2. Directive 99/92/EC (also known as 'ATEX 137' or the 'ATEX Workplace Directive') on minimum requirements for improving the health and safety protection of workers potentially at risk from explosive atmospheres

The aim of Directive 2014/34/EU:

The aim of Directive 2014/34/EU is to allow the free trade of 'ATEX' equipment and protective systems within the EU by removing the need for separate testing and documentation for each Member State. The Regulations apply to all equipment intended for use in explosive atmospheres, whether electrical or mechanical, and also to protective systems.

Manufacturers / suppliers (or importers, if the manufacturers are outside the EU) must ensure that their products meet essential health and safety requirements and undergo appropriate conformity procedures. This involves testing and certification by a 'third-party' certification body (known as a Notified Body) but manufacturers/suppliers can 'self-certify' equipment intended to be used in less hazardous explosive atmospheres. Once certified, the equipment is marked by the 'EX' symbol to identify it as such.

TÜV CYPRUS Certification:

Certification ensures that the equipment or protective system is fit for its intended purpose and that adequate information is supplied with it to ensure that it can be used safely.

TÜV Cyprus is a Notified Body (Notification No.: 2261) and is accredited by CYSAB under the terms of EN ISO/IEC 17065:2012, (Certificate no. 885), to carry out audits and certifications for ATEX according to the Directive 2014/34/EU. TÜV CYPRUS is the first and only certification body in Cyprus with this accreditation.

Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC

As a notified body (Registration No. 2261), TÜV CYPRUS LTD offers services in the following areas:

  1. Presses, including press-brakes, for the cold working of metal, with manual loading and/or unloading, whose movable working parts may have  travel exceeding 6 mm and a speed exceeding 30 mm/s.
  2. Injection or compression plastics-moulding machinery with manual loading or unloading.
  3. Injection or compression rubber-moulding machinery with manual loading or unloading
  4. Manually loaded trucks for the collection of household refuse incorporating a compression mechanism.
  5. Removable mechanical transmission devices including their guards.
  6. Guards for removable mechanical transmission devices.
  7. Vehicle servicing lifts.
  8. Devices for the lifting of persons or of persons and goods involving a hazard of falling from a vertical height of more than three metres.
  9. Portable cartridge-operated fixing and other impact machinery.
  10. Protective devices designed to detect the presence of persons.
  11. Power-operated interlocking movable guards designed to be used as safeguards in machinery referred to in points 9, 10 and 11.
  12. Logic units to ensure safety functions.
  13. Roll-over protective structures (ROPS).
  14. Falling-object protective structures (FOPS).

Certification of Pressure Equipment according to EU Directive 97/23/EC PED

The EU Pressure Equipment Directive 97/23/EC (PED) sets out the standards for the design and fabrication of pressure equipment having a maximum working pressure of more than 0.5 bar gauge. Under the EU Directive the following are considered as pressure equipment: pressure vessels, steam boilers, piping, accessories and assemblies. The PED came into force across the EU from 30th May 2002.

The Directive is addressed to the manufacturers and/or their authorized representatives. Under the Directive, pressure equipment and assemblies above specified pressure and/or volume thresholds must:

  • be safe,
  • meet essential safety requirements including design, manufacture and testing,
  • satisfy appropriate conformity assessment procedures and
  • carry CE marking and other information.

TÜV CYPRUS  performs conformity assessments and certification of pressure equipment such as pressure vessels, LPG vessels and steam boilers, through a combination of the following:

  • Design/Type examination,
  • Inspection of production,
  • Quality System certification.

Shop Inspections

Shop Inspection involves inspecting equipment and raw material at their place of manufacture before delivery. The purpose of shop inspections is to ensure that all equipment and raw material purchased meet customer specifications and requirements, and that they comply with all applicable laws and regulations. Shop inspections can help ensure that only safe buildings and equipment are manufactured, operated or installed.

Shop inspections can include design review, review of material certificates, visual inspections, Non Destructive Testing (NDT), supervision or monitoring.

TÜV CYPRUS offers shop inspections for the following:

  • Mechanical Equipment,
  • Pressure Equipment,
  • Rotating Equipment,
  • Electrical Equipment,
  • Measuring Equipment.

With the above inspections any risk to the safety of construction is avoided/eliminated and the proper use of materials is ensured.

Shop inspections during the production and manufacture of materials are the most cost-effective and convenient method, for a company, to determine that a product, service, process or installation complies with the requirements and standards set by applicable regulations or customer specifications.

Inspection of Raw Materials

The inspection of materials used in the manufacturing of pipes (steel, plastic, copper pipes), and castings (steel, inox, aluminum, nickel) can provide proof of the quality and specifications of the final products.

TÜV CYPRUS offers the following services for raw materials:

  • Approval/development of quality plans,
  • Inspection of the manufacturing and witnessing of relevant tests, according to manufacturing standards and the client's requirements,
  • Inspecting and issuing certificates according to EN 10204:2004 ‘Metallic materials. Types of inspection documents’.

We also offer inspections according to the following standards:

  • API 5L, Covers welded and seamless pipes suitable for use in conveying gas, water, and oil in both the oil and natural gas industries,
  • DIN 17172, Steel pipes for pipe lines for the transport of combustible fluids and gases,
  • EN 10208, Steel pipes for pipelines for combustible fluids. Technical delivery conditions. Pipes of requirement class A,
  • AWWA C 200, AWWA Standard for Steel Water Pipes,
  • EN 1555, Plastics piping systems for the supply of gaseous fuels - Polyethylene (PE),
  • EN 12735, Copper and copper alloys. Seamless, round copper tubes for air conditioning and refrigeration. Tubes for equipment,
  • EN 10213, Steel castings for pressure purposes,
  • DIN 1681,
  • DIN 1695, Wear Resisting Cast Iron,
  • DIN 17465, Heat Resisting Steel Castings.

Manufacturer's Qualification

In order for manufacturers of applications such as, welded metallic constructions, pressure equipment, pipes, cast products, welded railway vehicles and vehicle parts, to be able to trade freely in the EU market e.g. German markets, their products must be certified according to the following standards:

  • EN ISO 3834
    Quality requirements for welding
  • PED ANNEX 1
    Certification of raw materials and pressure equipment manufacturers
  • AD-2000 / HP0
    Certification of manufacturers of pressure vessels and pressure parts
  • AD-2000 / W0
    Certification of manufacturers of materials used in pressure vessels and pressure parts
  • TRD 201
    Certification of manufacturers of steam boilers and their accessories
  • TRD 100
    Certification of manufacturers of materials used in steam boilers
  • DIN 18800

Design and construction of structural steelwork
Certification according to the above-mentioned standards provides proof of the manufacturer’s competence to produce products and equipment of a high quality, providing an added competitive advantage.
TÜV CYPRUS, in collaboration with TÜV HELLAS, can offer services of certification according to all of the above standards.

Simple Pressure Vessels

Simple pressure vessels are vessels which are intended to contain air or nitrogen at a gauge pressure greater than 0.5 bar but less than or equal to 30 bar. They are not intended to be exposed to heat, they must be manufactured in series production and be of welded steel or aluminium construction.

The technical requirements for the manufacture of simple pressure vessels are laid down in EU legislation within the EU Directives 2009/105/EC and 87/404/EEC the Single Pressure Vessel Directive. The Directive applies to both producers and/or their authorised representatives.

TÜV CYPRUS offers product certification services which are performed through:

  • CE Design Examination and Surveillance or
  • CE Verification

Transportable Pressure Equipment

Transportable pressure equipment are considered to be all receptacles (cylinders, bundles of cylinders, pressure vessels, cryogenic receptacles) and all tanks that transport gases and dangerous goods by road and rail.

The design, manufacturing, reassessment and periodic inspection of transportable equipment is defined and set out in the EU Directives 2010/35/EC on Transportable Pressure Equipment and 2008/68/EC on the inland transport of dangerous goods.

TÜV CYPRUS offers inspections services according to the EU directives above.

Inspection of Transportable Pressure Equipment & Pressure Receptacles (TPED) as covered in chapters 6.2 & 6.8 of ADR 2015 Agreement

TPED is dedicated to the following fields of Inspection:

  1. The assessment of conformity for tank vehicles, battery vehicles/wagons, multiple element gas containers, their valves and other accessories when appropriate, as covered in the Chapter 6.8 of ADR 2015 Agreement and the Annexes of the Directives 2008/68/EC and 2010/35/EU.
  2. The assessment of pressure receptacles, aerosol dispensers, small receptacles containing gas (gas catridges) and fuel cell cartridges containing liquefied flammable gas as covered in the Chapter 6.2 of the ADR 2015 and the Annexes of the Directives 2008/68/EC and 2010/35/EU.

The above inspections cover conformity assessment activities, exceptional checks, intermediate inspections, periodic inspections and reassessment of conformity.

TÜV Cyprus is a Notified Body (Notification No.: 2261) and accredited by CYSAB under the terms of EN ISO/IEC 17020:2012 to carry out Inspections according to Directive 2010/35/EU Transportable Pressure Equipment as covered in chapters 6.2 and 6.8 of the ADR 2015 Agreement and the Annexes of the Directive 2008/68/EC, in the fields of Transportable Pressure Equipment and Pressure Receptacles.

ADR

The European Agreement concerning the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Road (ADR) refers to the safe transnational transportation of dangerous goods, such as explosives, liquefied gases (for example propane, butane, etc.), flammable liquids (for example benzene, diesel oil, etc.), acids etc. and to the special requirements which vehicles and their drivers have to fulfill.

The inspection of the tank vehicles is separated into three categories:

  • Initial Inspection (Type Approval),
  • Periodic Inspection after 6 years (Internal-External inspection, Hydro-test, Leakage test and function test of the equipment),
  • Periodic Inspection after 3 years (Leakage test and function test of the equipment).

TÜV CYPRUS offers its inspection services for periodic inspection via its inspectors that have been approved by the Ministry of Communications and Works.
 

Quality Assurance of Rotating Equipment

Rotating equipment are machines that comprise of rotating parts and include: air compressors, pumps, turbines, electrical power generators, and motors.

TÜV CYPRUS, in collaboration with TÜV HELLAS, offers Quality Assurance services during installation, testing, repair and maintenance of rotary equipment, based on the manufacturer's guidelines and international standards that exist. This can guarantee the uninterrupted use and function of your equipment.

Our services include:

  • Review of documentation (certificates, data sheets etc),
  • Inspection and certification of a four stage alignment (positioning of frame to the correct coordinates, alignment of motor with a pump for example, alignment with attachments – e.g. piping and hot alignment),
  • Examination of used machinery and issue of a full evaluation report,
  • Examination of equipment in the case of damage or accident.

Quality Assurance of Railway Equipment

Inspections and Certifications of railroad equipment are performed in order to ensure that all rail-vehicles (passenger trains, freight trains etc.) and railway tracks are manufactured and constructed in accordance with international regulations and the requirements of all applicable technical specifications.

TÜV CYPRUS, in collaboration with TÜV HELLAS, provides services in the field of inspection and certification of equipment and systems such as: rolling stock, traction systems, railways, signaling systems, on board units, safety systems, etc.

"Rolling Stock" are critical parts of rail vehicles for example couplers, doors, axles and spindles, wheels, boogies, shock absorbers, traction equipment, safety loops etc.

"Railroad equipment" includes the following: rails, welds, turn outs, crossings, signaling systems, power transformers, electrical power substations, on board units, etc.

Inspection and Certification of the above includes:

  • Type approval of equipment and systems
  • Observation and Certification of type tests,
  • First Article Inspections (FAI),
  • Inspections during manufacturing,
  • Observation and Certification of running tests,
  • Observation of the Commissioning tests,
  • Field-Inspection during the construction of railroads, depos and the substations of the power supply.
