Construction Products

The EU has established provisions that include requirements concerning:

  • safety,
  • energy conservation,
  • and environmental protection,

during the construction and operation of buildings and other structural constructions. Consequently, these requirements have a direct impact on the requirements of products in the construction sector.

Directive 89/106/EEC, as amended by Directive 93/68/EEC, and the new Regulation (EU) No 305/2011 apply to construction products, meaning those products intended to be permanently incorporated into construction works. These products must, in this regard, allow the construction of works that meet, for an appropriate period, the essential requirements in terms of mechanical resistance and stability, fire safety, hygiene, health and the environment, safety in use, energy conservation, and heat retention.

Based on the Directive, harmonized European Standards are issued to ensure compliance with the requirements specified by them for the respective products. The directive also defines the requirements for the use of the CE marking on construction materials or "construction products," which demonstrates the product's compliance with the corresponding harmonized European Standard.

TÜV CYPRUS provides certification services for various construction products where CE marking is required under Regulation 305/2011/EU, such as:

  • industrially produced thermal insulation products,
  • cement,
  • aggregates,
  • asphalt mixtures,
  • bituminous emulsions,
  • masonry mortar,
  • building lime,
  • concrete additives,
  • wood products,
  • fire extinguishing systems,
  • fire detection systems,
  • masonry elements,
  • metal constructions,
  • chimneys,
  • structural steels,
  • lighting poles,
  • external thermal insulation systems.
