Welder & Welding Operator Qualifications

Brazer & Brazing Operator Qualifications

Independent Third-Party Verification to EN ISO, ASME, AWS, PD 5500 and More

At TÜV UK, we specialise in the Third-Party, Independent, and Impartial Verification of welding qualifications and procedures to meet a wide range of national and international standards. With dedicated engineering teams based across the UK and Ireland, our inspection services are carried out in-works or on-site and are fully supported by UKAS accreditation under ISO/IEC 17020.

Our qualified engineers operate throughout the UK and Ireland, providing on-site or in-works witnessing for all fusion welding and brazing processes, including manual, mechanised, and fully automated systems. Supporting projects involving a vast array of materials — from Carbon Steel, Stainless Steel, Aluminium and Duplex, to special alloys like Super Duplex, Titanium, and Tantalum.

What We Offer

  • Witnessing of Welder, Welding Operator, and Brazing Operator Qualification Tests
  • Verification to EN ISO, ASME Section IX, AWS, NORSOK, and other recognised codes
  • Coverage for structural, pressure, piping, TPED, aerospace, and refrigeration/brazing systems
  • Third-party certificates issued by TÜV UK
  • Coordination of testing via UKAS-accredited mechanical and NDT laboratories
  • Two-year revalidation services, including for certificates issued by other organisations (subject to review)
  • Support for dual or multi-standard qualifications where applicable

Welding Standards We Work To

We provide welder and welding operator qualification services in accordance with the following major standards:

Structural Fabrication (Buildings, Frames, Bridges)

  • BS EN ISO 9606-1 / 9606-2 – Welder Qualification (Steel / Aluminium)
  • BS EN ISO 14732 – Welding Operator Qualification
  • BS EN ISO 15614-1 / -2 – Procedure Qualification (Steel / Aluminium)
  • BS EN 1090-2 / -3 – Execution of Steel and Aluminium Structures
  • AWS D1.1 / D1.5 – Structural and Bridge Welding Codes (where required by contract)
  • BS 5400-6 – Legacy UK bridge specification
  • EN 1993-1-8 (Eurocode 3) – Design of joints

Pressure Equipment (Non-PESR)

  • BS EN ISO 9606 series – Welder Qualifications,  Steels, Aluminium, Copper, Nickel, Titanium alloys
  • BS EN ISO 14732 – Welding Operators
  • ASME BPVC Section IX – Welding and brazing personnel
  • ASME B31.1 / B31.3 – Power/process piping
  • PD 5500, EN 13445, EN 13480

Transportable Pressure Equipment (TPED)

  • EN 13458-2, EN 14427, EN 13807 – Cryogenic, gas, and transport cylinders
  • ISO 9606, EN 15614 – Welder and procedure qualifications
  • ASME Section VIII/IX – For export or contract-specific fabrication

Brazing Applications

  • BS EN ISO 13585 – Qualification of Brazers and Brazing Operators
  • BS EN 13134 – Brazing Procedure Qualification
  • ASME IX (QW-200) – Brazing performance and procedure qualification
  • BS EN 14276 – Pressure-bearing refrigeration equipment ty

Types of Certification and Services

  • Welder Qualification Test Certificate (WQTC):
Confirms successful test performance by manual or semi-automatic welders in accordance with the applicable standard.
  • Welding Operator Qualification (WOQC):
For mechanised/automated processes under ISO 14732 or ASME IX.
  • Brazing Operator Qualification Certificate:
Witnessed qualification for brazers using torch, induction, furnace, or dip brazing processes to ISO 13585 or ASME IX.
  • Two-Year Revalidation Service:
  • For certificates issued by TÜV UK
  • Also available for certificates issued by other bodies (subject to documentation review)
  • Requires supporting WPQR or brazing procedure, and evidence of continuity
  • All qualifications are witnessed under ISO/IEC 17020 — not personnel certification under ISO/IEC 17024.
For PESR or UKCA-related certification, see below.
  • ISO/IEC 17024 Welder Certification (PESR/UKCA)
  • TÜV UK also offers formal personnel certification for welders under ISO/IEC 17024, including those required for PESR or UKCA marking.

How It Works

  1. Initial Technical Discussion
We’ll confirm the applicable standard, material group, process, and test type required.
  2. Test Witnessing
Conducted on-site or in-works at your location or an approved test centre.
  3. Testing & Results Review
Mechanical and/or NDT testing arranged via UKAS-accredited laboratories, validated by TÜV UK engineers.
  4. Certificate or Revalidation Issued
Upon successful review, we issue the relevant WQTC, WOQC, or Brazing Certificate, or revalidate existing qualifications.

Why Choose TÜV UK?

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes — provided test conditions satisfy both standards, dual qualification is achievable.

Yes — subject to a review of the certificate, WPQR/procedure, and evidence of welding or brazing continuity.

Absolutely — we witness brazing operator qualifications to ISO 13585, ASME IX, and EN 14276 for refrigeration and pressure systems.

Original certificate, supporting procedure (WPS/BPQR), and documented evidence of continuity.

Usually 2 years, with six-month continuity required. Any interruption may require requalification (depending on standards and options selected).

Yes — provided the location meets environmental and procedural controls.

Yes — including corrosion-resistant overlays and hardfacing to project specifications (e.g. NORSOK).

Welder: Manual or semi-auto fusion welding

Operator: Uses mechanised/automated systems

Brazer: Uses non-fusion joining with filler metal (e.g. torch, furnace, induction)

Based on the standard: visual inspection, mechanical tests (bends, macroscopic), NDT (RT, UT, PT, MT), or pressure tests as applicable.
