Climate Protection Project

Validation and Verification of Climate Protection Projects

Climate change, driven by global warming, is a critical challenge. Under the 2015 Paris Agreement, countries committed to cutting greenhouse gas emissions. Achieving carbon neutrality requires credible, verified CO2 certificates, making voluntary carbon schemes essential.

These schemes certify carbon credits and sustainable projects, ensuring emission reductions are accurate and meet global standards. Projects must follow recognized methodologies and undergo validation by accredited entities like TÜV NORD.

Some schemes TÜV NORD is accredited for

  • Verra’sVerified Carbon Standard (CSV); a global program that certifies emission reduction projects, issuing carbon credits which can be bought and retired to offset emissions, all publicly tracked by Verra. Learn more here.
  • Gold Standard; established by WWF and NGOs, certifies GHG reduction projects, issuing VER carbon credits, and supports activities from supply chains to national levels, all tracked in the GS Impact Registry. Learn more here.
