ARAI AIS Cert

ARAI (Automotive Research Association of India)
CMVR stands for the Central Motor Vehicles Rules.

Complete vehicles and automotive components subject to CMVR regulations—such as horns, automotive glass, and lamps—must apply for certification through ARAI, a certification body approved by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) of India. Notably, tires must apply for certification through the BIS (Bureau of Indian Standards).

Testing Standards and Items

There are two sets of regulatory standards in India: the IS standards formulated by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), and the AIS standards established by the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI). The IS standards cover a broader range of product categories but are updated more slowly than the AIS standards. Conversely, the AIS standards focus exclusively on vehicles and automotive components, featuring a faster update cycle.

When testing and evaluating complete vehicles and automotive component products, AIS standards should be adopted preferentially. If a specific technical requirement is not covered under the AIS standards, the corresponding IS standards can be applied directly.
