The aim of this course is to provide delegates with the knowledge and skills required to plan, conduct and lead first-, second- and third-party audits of food safety management systems against FSSC 22000 Version 7, in accordance with ISO 19011, ISO 22003-1 and ISO 17021-1, as applicable. The training covers ISO 22000, the updated prerequisite programme requirements including ISO 22002-100 and sector-specific ISO 22002-x standards, as well as the additional requirements of the FSSC 22000 Scheme Version 7, including key updates related to food safety culture, food fraud, food defence and sustainability.
In detail, the training course will provide amongst others the following technical knowledge and practical skills to become a competent Lead Auditor:
Successful completion of the course (continuous assessment plus examination) will result in issuance of a certificate which may be used to support an application to become registered as an IRCA auditor. Being certified as an IRCA auditor is a clear statement that you are a recognized, qualified and capable auditing professional.
The course has been designed for food safety professionals seeking an understanding of knowldge and skills needed to audit effectively against FSSC 22000. Knowledge about the core elements of management systems, the PDCA-cycle, the principles of FSMS, PRPs, HACCP, national and local FSMS legislation and the requirements of FSSC 22000, gained by e.g. attendance in a FSMS foundation course are essential.
FSSC 22000 Version 7 was published on 1 May 2026 and reflects the latest developments in food safety certification. The updated scheme incorporates the GFSI Benchmarking Requirements 2024, the new ISO 22002-x:2025 series for prerequisite programmes and enhanced requirements related to food safety culture, sustainability, food fraud and food defence. From 1 May 2027, certified organisations will begin transitioning to Version 7, with the transition period ending on 30 April 2028.
