Air Conditioning

Air conditioning check

Almost every newly registered car has air conditioning. The advantages are obvious. In the summer, drivers are able to keep cool even in the heat, and in the winter the air conditioning system provides visibility.

Other benefits of air conditioning

Those who suffer from allergies particularly benefit from air conditioning because the activated carbon filter filters up to 100 percent of all pollen from the air. Fine dust and ozone are also kept out of the vehicle.

Change the filter in the spring

For the air conditioning system to work properly, the interior filter must be replaced regularly, preferably in a specialist workshop. Workshops recommend a filter change after one year or 15,000 kilometers. A replacement is useful in the spring because dirt and moisture can accumulate in the filter in the winter. As a result, bacteria and mold increase which can lead to additional climate impact in the vehicle.

You can also have your air conditioning system equipped with a conventional filter converted to an activated carbon cabin filter. This way, pollen and fine dust are guaranteed to stay outside!

TUV NORD Expert Tip

Prevent refrigerant loss

By diffusion, the air conditioner loses eight to ten percent of refrigerant per year. You should therefore switch on the air conditioning regularly - even at lower temperatures - once a week for at least ten minutes. This keeps the refrigerant in the cooling circuit and prevents the seals from drying out.
