Four new substances are added as SVHC in Candidate List by ECHA, bringing the latest tally of substances in the candidate list of SVHC to 223 chemicals under REACH Regulation (EC 1907/2006)

On 17 January 2022, ECHA (European Chemical Agency) has added 4 new substances to the Candidate List of SVHCs.

The candidate list of SVHC (Substance of Very High Concern) now contains a total of 223 substances that may have serious health effects on humans or the environment under REACH Regulation (EC 1907/2006).

The newly added substances have shown to cause serious health effects in humans. One of the substances is used in cosmetics and has hormone disrupting properties. Another two are used in rubbers, lubricants and sealants etc. and affect the fertility of humans. The fourth substance is used in lubricants and greases and has been found to be persistent, bio accumulative and toxic, thus causing harm to environment.

Industries will need to apply for approval to continue usage of these chemicals, provided the chemicals will be added to the authorization list in the future.
