1515 ITC HS codes for imported food items mapped with existing FSSAI food code system (06/03/2020):

FSSAI has released a complete list of 1515 HS codes list of imported food articles which has been mapped along with the existing Food Code System of FSSAI as per Food safety and Standards Regulation. This will further be implemented in the InFolNet. The same list will be shared with the Customs and will be implemented at the Customs IECgate.

Food Business Operators to apply for working on temporary basis under lockdown conditions (31/03/2020):

The FSSAI released a notice stating that Food Business Operators can work temporarily under lockdown conditions to ensure the uninterrupted supply of food articles to consumers. All FBOs to fill Form-M and submit applications to authorities. On acceptance of the application the FBOs can resume operations as per the FSS act.

FSSAI extends the provision of providing Provisional NOC (P-NOC) to food product importers for imported crude oil and food grains (16/04/2020)

The FSSAI has extended the provision for providing provisional NOCs for crude oil and food grain imports wherein the importer needs to fill an undertaking form as given by FSSAI. The Food Safety Officer on satisfactory visual inspection of products can draw samples and send the same to laboratories for analysis as is the procedure, but they can now also issue a provisional NOC and need not wait until results are received from laboratory end.

U.S. Food and Drug Administration issued guidance to communicate FDA’s intention to temporarily not enforce supplier verification onsite audit requirements for receiving facilities and importers under the FDA Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) in response to the global pandemic of COVID-19. FDA does not intend to enforce the onsite audit requirements if other supplier verification methods are used instead.

To facilitate the distribution of food during the COVID-19 pandemic, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration today released a guidance document, Guidance for Industry: Temporary Policy Regarding Nutrition Labeling of Certain Packaged Food During the COVID-19 Public Health Emergency, to provide restaurants and food manufacturers with flexibility regarding nutrition labeling of certain packaged food.
