Facing the serious consequences of global warming, climate change has emerged as a real global challenge. Having been active in the field of environmental protection for more than 50 years, TÜV NORD, as one of the leading technical inspection organizations worldwide, has resolved to meet the challenge of climate change. Currently we have achieved DOE/AE-status. Within the accreditation, we can validate projects in the energy related scopes.

TÜV NORD is providing validation and verification services of GHG mitigation projects under the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM), Join Implementation (JI) and Voluntary Emission Reduction Schemes (VER). We also provide services related to Carbon Footprint and Carbon Neutrality for Individuals, companies and organizations.

CDM validation is an independent third party assessment for project design. The project's baseline, the monitoring plan (MP), and the project's compliance with relevant UNFCCC (United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change) and host party criteria has to be validated in order to confirm that the project design is sound and reasonable. All CDM projects have to be validated to determine the rationality of the project and to provide assurance to the stakeholders.

CDM verification is the periodic review and determination of the monitored greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction that has occurred as a result of the registered CDM project. A successful verification determine the amount of emission reduction credits earned by the contributing country. Certification is the written assurance that a project activity achieved the emission reductions as verified. The CDM executive board (CDM EB) issues the carbon emission reduction credits based on the successful verification of the CDM project.
We do provide formal service during entire JI/CDM project cycle, i.e., starting from new methodologies submission, validation and recurrent verification and certification. TÜV NORD has provided validation and verification services of large and small scale projects for inter alia renewable energy projects, landfill projects, retrofit projects and natural gas power plant project activities.
