The BRCGS Global Standard Food Safety has set the benchmark for over 25 years. Adopted by over 22,000 sites in more than 130 countries, the standard is accepted by leading global brands and retailers
The BRCGS Food Safety standard was developed by the British Retail Confederation and is aimed at food suppliers who manufacture private label products on behalf of Super Markets mainly in England.
It was first published in 1998. Since then, it has been updated several times in line with evolving food safety requirements.
It concerns food manufacturing companies, but does not cover trading activities, product imports, distribution and/or storage when these are carried out by third parties.
The scheme requires companies to comply with the relevant food legislation. The BRCGS Global Standard Food Safety is recognised by the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) scheme, and widely accepted by specifiers, brands and retailers.
Furthermore, they achieve a reduction in customer inspections as the latter have access to all inspection data from the certification body.
