AGRO-3 standards that specify requirements for feed production, pig farming, slaughterhouses, meat processing companies and retailers.
Pig farming and production of pork meat is a rapidly growing business in Food and Agriculture Sector in Greece and in the EU. In order to ensure their prosperity and development, companies that are involved in the business must fulfill the consumers’ requirements regarding food safety and meat hygiene.
The Greek Organization for Certification and Surveillance of Agricultural Products, also known as “AGROCERT”, has developed the 5 AGRO-3 standards that specify requirements for feed production, pig farming, slaughterhouses, meat processing companies and retailers.
Main aspects of the standards are the control of the chemical or microbiological hazards that could enter the food chain during feed produce, farming, slaughtering or processing, the maintenance of traceability from farm to fork, the assurance of animal welfare and the protection of environment.
The 5 AGRO 3 standards can be implemented by feed producers, pig farms, slaughterhouses, meat processing plants and retailers. Each company can implement one standard individually or in combination, depending on their activities, and can seek certification, in order to enter the National Scheme for the Quality Assurance for Pork Meat.
TÜV HELLAS (TÜV NORD) SA with an aim to provide integrated and reliable solutions in the food and agricultural sector, was the first Certification Body in Greece to receive Accreditation by the Greek Accreditation System (ESYD) for the AGRO3 standards and can provide certification services with experienced and adequately trained Greek inspectors.
