Certification

The integration process among European Union countries requires the removal of trade and technical barriers. Trade barriers relate to creating conditions for the free movement of labor, goods, and capital. Technical barriers arise from differences in national legislation and the criteria used to assess personnel qualifications, technologies, and product quality.

To meet market information needs, certification is applied, which can be either mandatory or voluntary by legal status.

Mandatory certification is dictated by legislation, ensuring the quality and safety of a product, process, or service. In this case, a manufacturer without certification is not permitted to produce or sell the product.

Voluntary certification is at the discretion of the manufacturer, who uses it to enhance the competitiveness of their products.

To indicate compliance with the requirements of one or more directives, certificates and quality marks are used. In the EU, the “CE” mark is widely recognized.
