Sustainable fisheries

The certification programme and the quality mark of the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) recognize and reward sustainable fishing and fisheries. MSC stands for a worldwide organisation that cooperates with fishermen, enterprises in the fish-processing industry, and commercial, scientific, and environmental organisations and consumers in the promotion of the most environment-friendly choice of fish and seafood products.

By having themselves certified conform to the MSC environmental standard for sustainable fishing, fisheries are able to demonstrate their adherence to sustainable production and processing practices.

Before their being allowed to sell fish, crustaceans, and shellfish stocks under the MSC quality mark, all of the enterprises in the supply chain need to have undergone a detailed traceability control inspection conform to the MSC traceability standard. This way, assurance is gained that only fish, crustaceans, and shellfish originating from certified fisheries will be sold under the MSC quality mark.

TÜV NORD INTEGRA offers certification for the MSC traceability standard, more specifically for what concerns enterprises buying MSC-certified fish and process/market seafood products.
