Ministry of Environment has introduced E-Waste (Management & Handling ) Rules 2011, which will be effective fron 1st May 2012, wherby prohibiting the use of certail chemicals in the Elctronic Industry. These Rules are on the same lines as Directive 2002 / 95 / EC Of the European Parliament & of the council of 27 January 2003, all Electrical and Electronic Equipments pertaining to above categories entering EU have to comply with the permissible norms in respect of heavy metals (Pb, Hg, Cd and hexavalent Chromium), hazardous substances (PBB and PBDE) and restriction of usage of these hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment are mandatory. This will apply to EU, USA (As per State California-Electronic Waste Recycling Act of 2003 Regulations SB 20), Japan Russia and China.
