TÜV NORD Portable Emission Measurement System (PEMS)
Mobile emission measurements for assessment of exhaust gas behaviour of internal combustion engines in real operation.
In the coming years, commercial vehicles as a whole will have to fulfil exhaust emission values which are as much as 80 per cent lower then the current limits.
These ever-stricter environmental requirements mean ongoing challenges for today's engine designers.
From the point of view of air quality, it is important that those who issue official rules and regulations, environmental agencies and other decisionmakers can draw upon real emission values. In future, European legislation will push forward ever more strongly with measures for monitoring emissions in the field . Long years of experience and expert know-how are available within the Institute for Vehicle Technology and Mobility (Institut für Fahrzeugtechnik und Mobilität - IFM) in order to perform - and even more importantly, to evaluate and assess - these measurements. Our services are not only limited to road vehicles (vans, trucks and buses). Mobile machinery and equipment, agricultural vehicles, locomotives and also ships can also be provided with our mobile measuring technology in the form of PEMS (Portable Emission Measurement System). This measuring technology, with its intelligent mobility, is intended to help protect the environment.
In addition to measuring exhaust emissions (NOx, NO, NO2, CO, HC, particulates etc.) during engine operation, we can also offer information regarding fuel consumption and/or CO2 emissions. In combination with our data recording and analysis, it is therefore possible to make a comprehensive statement about the particular application in question. Separate torque measurements using DMS and GPS data also mean we can make the statements even more specific.
For heavy commercial vehicles, we can offer our customers PEMS measurements using EMROAD® assessment. This means that the measurements that are taken conform with the in-service requirements according to the EURO V/VI standard, in whose development the Institute for Vehicle Technology played a large part. It is also possible to develop solutions for special, customer-specific cases. In addition to recording and evaluation of the measured values, we also offer advisory services, for example concerning suitable engine technologies and / or after-treatment of exhaust gases. A further possibility is also to include noise emissions, in order to enable even more extensive analysis.
We want to help you in any way we can.
