Exhaust gas test now for motorcycles, too
A clean affair for the environment
Feel the wind in your hair and enjoy the air and sunshine again. Fantastic! But what would a motorcycle ride be like without a clean environment? Even motorcycles emit more than just hot air from their exhaust systems. Wear, insufficient maintenance, erroneous repairs or unapproved exhaust systems are polluting the air we breathe. Therefore, legislators ask that you get a regular check of the exhaust gases of your motorcycle (AUK) within the scope of the general inspection.
Which motorcycles need to be inspected?
If your motorcycle meets the criteria listed next, it must undergo a motorcycle emissions test as part of the general inspection:
- The motorcycle was first approved after January 1, 1989.
- It has a 2-cycle or 4-cycle gasoline engine.
- The engine size is more than 50 cc.
- You drive faster than 45 km/h
Of importance is what comes out at the rear.
Our quality service for clean air: Specialists at the TÜV station measure the carbon monoxide content of exhaust gases in idle. This depends on the technical equipment of the vehicle
- Vehicles without a catalytic converter or with an unregulated catalytic converter
- Measurement at idle
- CO content: Manufacturer's specification, maximum allowed limit 4.5 % Vol.
- Vehicles with a regulated catalytic converter
- Measurement at increased idle (manufacturer's specification, otherwise 2,000 RPM)
- CO content: As per manufacturer's specification, maximum allowed limit 0.3 % Vol.
Would you like to have the inspection performed by an officially recognized garage? Then pay close attention to the dates. The motorcycle emissions test may not be carried out earlier than one month prior to the general inspection. In this case, you need to submit the motorcycle emissions test certificate furnished with a seal bearing the stamped number of the officially recognized workshop to the TÜV specialist before commencement of the general inspection.
Emissions test code:
Whether your motorcycle needs to undergo an emissions tests is also indicated by the relevant code in the vehicle's documents. The term "motorcycle" also covers trikes and quads. We have grouped the code numbers according to "old" and "new" documents for a quick overview.
