Vehicle subsystem

Electrics / electronics

In all areas of railway systems and their technical equipment, electrics and electronics play an extremely important role. They make it easier to operate signal boxes, vehicles and despatch, and have superseded mechanical components that are both maintenance and personnel intensive.

Now, however, new questions are arising with regard to proving the safety of systems and components; in particular since programmable electronics have entered the market. One particularly relevant body of rules and guidelines for the railway area is the CENELEC standards, the UIC guidelines and standards concerning railway service qualification.
