Driving licence at 17
A safe early start to a life of mobility
The "Teeny" driving license hat exceeded all positive expectations: A markedly falling number of accidents speaks for itself. Experts claim: in the long term, up to 40 percent of all accidents could be avoided if all drivers took their driving license at 17.

Two people is always better. For sure
Young drivers up to the age of 18 can only drive a car if accompanied by an adult of at least 30. You will profit from the experience of the accompanying person, will react faster and will be more skilled in difficult situations.
- We generally recommend that both applicant and companion take part in an induction seminar.
- The companion need not be a legal guardian Nonetheless, it would be nice if parents were to take on this task.
- 17-year-olds can acquire the B and BE classes.
- M, L and S classes are contained in the B class and can be used without a companion.
- In addition to the "normal" card-format driving license, the additional costs when applying are:
€ 7.70 for issuing the test certificate
€ 5.10 for the companion check
Does "accompanied driving" influence the test?
"Accompanied driving" has no influence on the driving test. You can take the theoretical test three months before your 17th birthday and the practical test one month before. However, you will not receive your driving license until your 17th birthday.
The companion: Driving with responsibility
- As a companion, you are a contact partner and helper while and after driving. Answer questions
- Let the driver make autonomous decisions
- Limit yourself to occasional advice and do not directly intervene in driving decisions and driving maneuvers
- Advise the driver on route choices
- Soothe the drive in stressful and conflict situations
If the young person drives without the companion, he/she will lose their license
