R for ride
Licence or no licence, for many young people, there is no question at all: they expect to have their first motorcycle license on their 16th birthday. They then immediately start dreaming about even bigger motorcycles. We provide you with an overview of all the driving licence classes and their respective scope.
Class A, with no restrictions
The cream of the crop among motorcycle driver's licences: if you have an class A licence with no restrictions, the motorcycle's engine performance and power to weight ratio (kg per kilowatt) are irrelevant. You automatically obtain the unrestricted class A licence, without changing your driver's licence, if you have had an unrestricted class A driver's licence for two years. If you are at least 25 years old, you can go directly to the top and obtain the restricted class A driver's licence.

Restricted class A
The motor cycle class A is for motorcyclists between 18 and 24 years old. Due to safety reasons, you may only drive motorcycles that do not have too much engine power in the beginning. The maximum nominal output is 25 kW. The power/empty weight ratio may not exceed 0.16 kW/kg. The restriction no longer applies after two years.

Class A1
You obtain the "small" motorcycle driver's licence once you turn 16. The engine size of your light motorcycle limited to a maximum of 125m³. If you are still a minor, the "small bike" may not drive faster than 80 km/h. You can drive faster once you turn 18.

Class M
Finally. With the class M licence, the mobile life takes off – even if the speed is still rather modest. 45 km/h is more than just a brisk pace. Combustion engines have a maximum engine size of 50 cm³. Whoever drives a lot in built-up areas, drives significantly more cost-effectively with the class M than with the class A1 licence.
