Qualification as FSCAE, FSCAC and FSCAM
Functional safety needs qualification and competence
New technologies and extended functionalities in motor vehicles mean that ever more safety-relevant electronic systems must be developed within the automotive industry. It is not only the number of electronic components and systems that is increasing, but also their complexity and the safety requirements which apply to them. Safety standard ISO 26262 requires companies to ensure that persons entrusted with functional safety tasks possess a sufficient degree of competence and that they are suitably qualified. Since the publication of ISO 26262, there has been an urgent demand for personnel trained in the area of functional safety who can demonstrate their competence and professional approach by means of corresponding qualifications.
We have developed a three-stage personal certification programme in this area:
Stage 1 = FSCAE (Functional Safety Certified Automotive Engineer)
Knowledge of basic principles, concepts and objectives of functional safety management
Stage 2 = FSCAC (Functional Safety Certified Automotive Coordinator /Consultant)
Ability to plan, perform and document assessments based on ISO 26262
Stage 3 = FSCAM (Functional Safety Certified Automotive Manager)
Competence to act as process owner of functional safety management and to plan activities within projects
