International certification standard in the rail vehicle industry
Due to restructuring processes among operators and technical and legal harmonisation, the rail traffic markets are changing. To cater to the demands of the operators for quality and reliability for rolling stock, an international rail-specific standard has been developed on the basis of the DIN EN ISO 9001 standard for management systems under the direction of the UNIFE (Union des Industries Ferroviaires Européennes) with IRIS (International Railway Industry Standard). IRIS is considered the approved standard for approval of suppliers within the rail vehicle industry.
TÜV NORD CERT has the corresponding approval and was one of the first five approved certification enterprises permitted to conduct assessment in accordance with the new International Railway Industry Standard.
