New Machinery Directive
Implementation of the European Machinery Directive
The European Union stipulates that machinery to be placed on the market within its borders must fulfil standardised safety requirements for the protection of employees and consumers. An inspection by TÜV NORD CERT offers manufacturers of machinery, equipment, safety components and automation technology the certainty that they fulfil these requirements.
Content of the new Directive
The requirements of Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC have been binding since the end of 2009. One important aspect is that a risk assessment is now obligatory, replacing the assessment of hazard which was previously required. For machinery and safety components categorised as particularly hazardous, the manufacturer can either undertake an EC Design examination or can implement a so-called "full quality assurance system" for the design, manufacture, final inspection and testing of the machinery. The system must be approved by a notified body such as TÜV NORD CERT.
A step ahead with safety
TÜV NORD CERT offers a wide range of services associated with the Machinery Directive and supports manufacturers in providing all the documents needed for machinery to be placed on the market. Voluntary inspections also document that a manufacturer is a step ahead when it comes to safety. This is where the TÜV test mark creates confidence and offers benefits within the competitive environment.
Competent partner
TÜV NORD CERT works within both national and international expert committees, ensuring that all auditors have the latest information regarding product-related directives and the state of the art. The very highest levels of specialist competence, foresight, neutrality and continuity are therefore available for the support of machinery manufacturers.
