Our employees will help you along your way
If the driver's license authorities have doubts about a driver's fitness to drive, in many cases the driver's license ordinance (in effect since 1999) provides for an examination in an officially recognized assessment centre for driving fitness. The medical-psychological institute with its 53 assessment centres in 11 federal states has the prescribed personnel and equipment, which is regularly checked along with the quality of the appraisal by the Federal Highway Research Institute.

The reasons for an MPU are multifaceted
The most common reason for an assessment are traffic violations under the influence alcohol, either after the first incident involving alcohol at 1.6 per mille or higher, or after repeated incidents of DWI. But other traffic violations, the desire for early issuance of a driver's license or special requirements for professional drivers can also be used by the driver's license authority as a reason for requesting an MPU. Our traffic medical service performs medical appraisals if the driver's license authority has doubts, for example, due to illness-related limitations.

Dispel the doubts
Regardless of what fitness questions the authorities want answered, the examination is always strictly "reason-related" and is limited in scope and content to answering the questions asked by the authorities. Ultimately, the driver's license authority is solely responsible for deciding on a driver's fitness to drive. It will, of course, use the appraisal in the decision process.
